Chris Brown

Chief Operating Officer

In addition to leading the daily operations of hc1, Chris oversees the technology, client success, finance and legal teams. Prior to hc1, Chris was President and CFO of ChaCha. At ChaCha Chris launched the mobile products and guided the company’s growth to the #1 answers service worldwide, answering over 2 Billion questions in just a few years after its launch in 2008. Prior to ChaCha Chris spent 20 years in the wireless sector where he held a variety of leadership roles in sales operations, finance, customer care, and strategic planning for Verizon Wireless and Nextel Communications. Chris started his career at Deloitte Haskins and Sells and is a CPA.

Michael Braverman

SVP of Services and Analytics

As SVP of Services and Analytics at hc1, Michael is responsible for leading the delivery of hc1 solutions to customers. His team works to seamlessly move customers through the activation timeline, educate users on the hc1 platform, and build robust analytics for maximum customer success. His passionate focus on continuous customer success and hands-on attentiveness has made Michael an asset at hc1. Prior to hc1, Michael served as a Director of PureConnect Business Operations at Genesys and as a Sr. Manager of Business Operations at Interactive Intelligence, where he was responsible for service delivery. Michael currently lives in Indianapolis with his family.

Laura Breedlove

SVP of Product

Laura Breedlove is a returning executive to hc1 now serving in a new role as Senior Vice President of Product. Laura is responsible for the product strategy, development and lifecycle across the portfolio of products hc1 offers. Laura is a respected product and technology executive with more than 20 years of experience building products and technology at scale. Prior to joining hc1 as the SVP of Product, Laura led several tech companies to scale and grow to help them leverage software and build out platform solutions and products. Laura was excited to return again to hc1 in late 2021 where she had originally received the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the year award by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2016.

Charlie Clarke

SVP of Technology

As Senior Vice President of Technology, Charlie is responsible for driving execution across the hc1 Engineering and IT Operations. He oversees the development, delivery, and maintenance of new products and features to hc1 applications.  In addition, he ensures the continued security, availability, and performance of the hc1 platform. Prior to hc1, Charlie spent 15 years delivering healthcare technology solutions for Anthem Inc. While at Anthem, he led the delivery of a mission-critical enterprise customer service solution for the Medicare program providing 24×7 technology solutions for more than 55 million Medicare beneficiaries. Charlie graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.

Lori Smith, PHR

SVP of Talent

As the SVP of Talent at hc1, Lori is responsible for revolutionizing how human resources supports the hc1 team through leadership, attracting and developing top talent and building a culture of innovation and engagement. Prior to hc1, Lori was the Director of Finance for Bostech Corporation, responsible for a variety of accounting and finance activities where she prepared financial statements, reports and projections in compliance with success metrics. Lori earned a B.A. in Organizational Communications with a minor in Economics from Indiana University. Additionally, she has a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan. Lori is a Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and is a member of Society for Human Resource Management.

Shelly Simeone, CHSP

Vice President, Legal
Corporate Compliance Officer

As the Vice President, Legal, Corporate Compliance Officer at hc1, Shelly is responsible for leading the internal processes for promoting and ensuring hc1’s compliance with laws and regulations. Shelly maintains oversight of the hc1 information security program, the hc1 intellectual property portfolio, and oversees all contracting for hc1. Prior to joining hc1, Shelly served as the Sr. Director, Legal and Regulatory Services for Kaplan Compliance Solutions where she spearheaded the organization’s SSAE 16 SOC 2 certification. Shelly currently resides in downtown Indianapolis with her husband.

Brian D. Patty, MD, CHCIO

Clinical Advisor

With over 20 years experience in healthcare informatics, Dr. Patty is currently CMIO at Medix Technology where he is part of the Consulting and Advisory team providing services across the full duration of an organization’s Epic journey including implementation planning, implementation project directorship, post-live performance improvement, physician satisfaction and efficiency improvement and Epic optimization. Previously, Dr Patty was Vice President Clinical Information Systems and Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) at Rush University Medical Center where he oversees the optimization of Epic and related clinical applications.

He was named as one of 30 leading CMIO Experts by Health Data Management Magazine in 2016 and again in 2017 and one of 50 Hospital and Health System CMIOs to Know by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2017. Dr. Patty’s long-standing quest to promote quality improvement through evidence-based medicine led to an AMDIS Award in 2005 for his success in a CPOE implementation at a community hospital and ultimately to his role as the CMIO for HealthEast. In 2011 Dr. Patty received another AMDIS award for his championing the EHR’s role in the quality improvement efforts at HealthEast. He was also named to Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Clinical Informaticists in that same year and was the winner of the 2012 Healthcare Informatics/AMDIS IT Innovation Advocate Award.

Diane Janowiak, MT(ASCP)

Senior Director of Client Solutions

Diane Janowiak, MT(ASCP), is hc1’s senior director of client solutions. She is responsible for ensuring the healthcare organizations that rely on hc1 solutions achieve their goals by providing insights into market analysis, product positioning, and solution development. Her 27+ years working in the reference and acute care laboratory settings have made her a go-to thought leader on driving quality and efficiency in all areas of healthcare, all while grounding her success in low-cost, high-quality care.

Diane, a CAP inspector, understands the day-to-day challenges and pain points—which are exacerbated by increased demands and changes to healthcare delivery that makes it difficult to make all the puzzle pieces fit—facing laboratory leaders and offers solutions to enhance lab quality and efficiency. Her experience encompasses all areas of the lab, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, transfusion medicine, toxicology, molecular diagnostics, donor testing, cytology, and histology. Prior to joining hc1, Diane was the vice president of laboratory operations for the South Bend Medical Foundation, where she provided management and oversight of all clinical departments, implemented innovative testing technologies, negotiated contracts, established budgets, and provided efficiency through IT solutions and strategic automation.

Peter J. Plantes, MD

Physician Executive

Peter J. Plantes, M.D. has three decades of experience creating service and delivery solutions that enhance marketplace success and clinical performance for clinical practice groups, academic faculty group practices, hospitals, health systems, and health care organizations. His success stems from his ability to blend and synergize clinical knowledge, operational expertise, financial performance, and collaborative methodology with his deep commitment to serve patients and improve the health of the community. Dr. Plantes has served in CEO & Physician Executive roles for a number of large healthcare clinical delivery networks including regional community networks, academic practices, national hospital networks, international health systems (Chile, Colombia),  and corporate managed care/HMO networks.

Wesley B. Wong, MMM,MD

Director of Clinical Affairs

Dr. Wong is an experienced physician executive with more than 30 years of clinical practice and physician leadership. He has demonstrated experience in the clinical practice of neurology, neuromuscular diseases, and pain management. In addition, Dr. Wong has extensive experience as a physician executive with national roles and responsibilities in large healthcare delivery systems, advancing innovative medical technologies and demonstrated leadership in the managed care industry. Dr. Wong serves as the Director of Clinical Affairs for hc1.

Hazem Elewa, RPh, PHD

Clinical Advisor

Dr.Elewa received his PhD from the University of Georgia (UGA) in 2008. He joined the University of Florida for a one year post-doctoral fellowship in pharmacogenomics and participated in the COAG landmark trial. Since October 2010, Dr. Hazem has served as a Clinical Pharmacist at Georgia Regents Medical Center and was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy, as well as a clinical rotation preceptor since 2011. In 2013, he joined the College of Pharmacy, Qatar University, as an assistant professor and progressed in the academic ladder. He is currently the Head of Clinical Training and an Associate Professor. His clinical and research interests are focused on precision medicine, cardiology and anticoagulation. He has received several awards including a pre-doctoral fellowship grant from the American Heart Association and multiple grants through Qatar National Research Foundation and Hamad Medical Corporation. To date he has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and has been an invited speaker at various international conferences. He supervised several MSc & PhD students at the College of Pharmacy. Dr.Elewa also serves as a board member in the International Pharmacists Anticoagulation Care Taskforce (iPACT) and as a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals.

John Baker, MBA

Director

John Baker is EVP & COO of National Wine & Spirits, Inc. (NWS/National). Founded in 1936 and headquartered in Indianapolis, NWS operates as a wine & spirits wholesaler in Indiana and Authorized Distribution Agent (ADA) and wine wholesaler in Michigan. National’s 1,100 employees proudly service 20,000 licensees with 14,000 products represented by 450 suppliers. As EVP/COO of National, John is ultimately responsible for all operations as well as the financial performance of the country’s eighth largest wholesaler. He works closely with the ownership and management team, as well as a variety of external partners to develop and implement business plans that have delivered growth for NWS and its suppliers. John graduated from the University of Miami (OH) and received his MBA from Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Management.

John Mills, MD, PhD

Director

Dr. Mills co-founded BioStorage Technologies Inc. (BST) in 2002, recognizing the need for the biopharmaceutical industry to store and manage samples for future biomarker and target identification as well as for analyses performed to meet regulatory requirements. He grew BST through angel and series A funding to a global company that was acquired by Brooks Automation in December 2015. Since that time, he has been Chairman of DGP Intelsius Ltd., a UK headquartered company specializing in global cold chain packaging solutions. He also serves on the boards of Robarts Clinical Trials, a Canadian CRO specializing in gastroenterology.  He has also been a director of IBT Labs, CPR Clinical Trials (Australia), Chantest and Diversigen, all of which were acquired in successful transactions. Before founding BST, Dr. Mills served for four years as corporate senior vice president and president of clinical support services for Covance, Inc., a leading contract research organization headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey. While there, he was responsible for a clinical services division that employed more than 2,000 staff globally. From 1991 to 1998 he was corporate vice president and president of Covance’s clinical business in Europe, operating in 14 countries. Prior to 1991, Dr. Mills held senior positions for Johnson and Johnson’s pharmaceutical division in Asia (based in Singapore) and the U.K. From 1976 to 1982 he served in the Royal Air Force as a specialist in Aviation Medicine at Farnborough, UK. Dr. Mills received his MD from Cambridge University and his Ph.D. in endocrinology from Surrey University in the United Kingdom. He holds diplomas in pharmaceutical medicine, aviation medicine, and marketing and has authored more than 40 scientific papers as well as a textbook on aviation medicine.

Mark Shary

Director

Mark Shary brings a wealth of experience building high-growth technology companies to hc1.com. Mark founded HubLink, a high growth healthcare technology company, and led two others after beginning his career with Ernst & Young.  Mark led HubLink from inception to more than $50 million in revenue through a combination of organic growth and mergers. Mark has directly managed all core functional business areas for a variety of companies and has built and managed international sales organizations. He has served as CFO of a listed company, bought and sold technology businesses, managed a large R&D team, negotiated multi-million dollar technology deals, and financed several startups. Mark has led and advised on dozens of corporate finance transactions ranging in size from several million to several billion dollars.  He has a B.B.A in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and is a CPA.
